What is an SSL certificate and why should I have one?

Last updated: January 15, 2019

An SSL certificate is an integral part of a good customer-merchant relationship, as an SSL encrypts all personal information that is sent to and from a website.

This is especially critical for eCommerce websites who are taking payment, however, if you’re using a 3rd party gateway such as Stripe or PayPal, you won’t need to purchase an additional SSL given that they use their own SSL for the checkout process.

If you’re running a shop or a signup process which collects client data such as address, phone numbers and most importantly taking credit card details, it is highly recommended that you run an SSL certificate.

As part of this, the SSL certificate displays a padlock in your clients internet browser and provides them peace of mind that their data is safe.

If a website is showing as ‘Non-Secure’, it’s recommended to take precaution. It’s recommended but not standard for every website to have an SSL,

The bottom line is; if you’re taking payments via your website, you need to use an SSL certificate to protect your clients and in turn your business.

We offer free SSL certificates with all of our hosting plans, which can be installed through MyZuver or if you were to contact our support team, they can assist further.
