How long does it take to register a domain name?

Last updated: January 16, 2019

In most cases, your domain registration will finalise instantly once payment has been received.

Any gTLD’s such as .com, .net domain names will finalise very quickly given there is no eligibility requirements to check.

.AU domain names do have eligibility requirements associated with them, as they require an ABN/ACN/State BN to register one and our system relies on the Australian Business Register (ABR) to and Australian Securities Investment Commission (ASIC) to confirm your eligibility, so they may take longer to review and approve.

Domain registrations may be held up for the following reasons:

  • If the registration type is .id.au, .asn.au or .org.au they require manual review to check that you meet the strict eligibility requirements.
  • If an incorrect, cancelled or invalid ABN/ACN is supplied for a .com.au or .net.au registration.
  • If the domain is already registered elsewhere (this is bug related) and won’t be available to purchase.
  • Contact details on your account have been set up incorrectly.
This refers to using a nickname, a fake address, or phone number in the invalid format.

All other registrations are typically processed within minutes, but if your registration is having any issues, please get in touch with our billing team who can take a look for you.
