The .app extension is a secure namespace, meaning you will need an SSL Certificate installed on your website before it can be viewed in a browser.
.app domain names come pre-submitted to the HSTS Preload list, which in effect makes them HTTPS-only, and any website that doesn’t have any SSL operates over HTTP, so you will need an SSL.
If you require an SSL certificate, you would just need to install a free Let’s Encrypt SSL if you’re on Managed WordPress hosting, or use a free one provided to your cPanel based service as we don’t offer any stand-alone SSL certificates at this point in time.
In the event that you purchase an SSL Certificate through a third party provider and need assistance installing it on your cPanel hosting service, please contact our technical support team who will be able to install that for you.
What will happen if I don’t have an SSL Certificate installed?
Due to the eligibility requirements of the domain name, it is pivotal that you have an SSL installed on your website.
If no SSL is installed on your website, yourself or any visitors who encounter the website will run into an error when visiting your website and your content won’t display properly.
